",{"type":576,"attrs":668,"content":669},{"textAlign":49},[670],{"text":671,"type":581},"While there are environmental and safety concerns from dry-stack tailings, including risks from earthquakes and runoff into the sea, the tailings can be managed through neutralisation, toxicity treatment and effluent monitoring. ",{"type":576,"attrs":673,"content":674},{"textAlign":49},[675],{"text":676,"type":581},"They are also looking at a number of ways of reusing tailings, particularly waste with high iron content, which could be used in construction or within the stainless steel production process. And haulage distances will increase as mining sites become further from processing sites.
