St George Mining: at the frontier of rare earth development in the Americas
Thiago Amaral, ESG & Technical Development Director, St George Mining
As global concern grows over dependence on Chinese rare-earth supply, 2025 has seen governments and industry redouble efforts to develop alternative sources, and the rise of the Araxá project shows how companies like St George Mining are positioned to benefit. China remains dominant. However, thanks to tighter export controls and geopolitical frictions, many Western countries are now actively seeking supply-chain diversification. St George’s 2025 acquisition and maiden resource declaration at Araxá - a niobium rare earth carbonatite deposit - thus comes at a moment of heightened strategic demand for “non-China” critical minerals. As the West ramps up downstream processing, refining and supply-chain investments, such projects have sharply increased value and visibility.
