In early April, Chinese Tier 1 cathode producer Jae Se, previously a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ningbo Ronbay Lithium Battery Material (Ronbay), announced plans to restructure its ownership in order to meet specific sourcing requirements resulting from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), adopted by the US in July 2025. Jae Se operates an active cathode facility in Chungju, South Korea, currently focused on nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) cathode production. The company is also developing a lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) cathode line at the same site, with mass production expected to begin later this year. The Chungju facility will have a 70,000tpa nameplate capacity, with 10,000tpa allocated to LMFP and the remaining 60,000tpa to NCM cathode material.
