Who supplies the world’s EV batteries?
:format(auto):focal(center))
As global EV demand continues to accelerate, battery supply remains highly concentrated and regionally uneven.

Who supplies China’s EV batteries?
China’s EV market is largely self-supplied by domestic battery manufacturers, with players such as CATL, BYD, CALB, Gotion, Sunwoda and SVOLT leading the market. This dominance is underpinned by a high degree of vertical integration and control across the battery supply chain.
Who supplies Europe’s EV batteries?
Europe’s EV battery supply is split primarily between South Korean and Chinese manufacturers. While Korean suppliers retain a strong foothold (LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, SK On), Chinese players are steadily increasing market share. In 2025, Chinese producers supplied 42% of Europe’s EV battery demand, gaining 4 p.p. year-on-year, while Korean manufacturers remained the largest suppliers with a 56% share year-on-year.
Who supplies EV batteries to the rest of the world?
The US benefits from a more diversified supplier base, spanning Korean, Japanese, US (predominantly Ultium, the GM–LG joint venture) and Chinese companies. Domestic capacity is expanding, but the market remains reliant on Asian manufacturers in the near to medium term.
Outside the major EV markets, battery supply is predominantly sourced from Chinese manufacturers, reflecting limited local production capacity.
As EV adoption scales, regions are seeking greater supply chain resilience, but the difficulty of establishing domestic battery production means Chinese and Korean manufacturers, already scaled, cost competitive and integrated, remain central to meeting near and medium-term demand.-competitive and integrated, remain central to meeting near- and medium-term demand.
