Benchmark Mineral Intelligence is delighted to announce that it has been invited to give evidence to the UK’s House of Commons Business and Trade Select Committee.
Benchmark’s CEO, Simon Moores, will speak on Tuesday 9th May, 14.45 (UK) at the hearing: ‘Oral Evidence for Batteries and Electric Vehicle Manufacturing in the UK’.
The Business and Trade Select Committee has launched an inquiry into the state of the UK’s battery supply chain, how it can meet domestic and global demand, and what can be learned from the rest of the world.
On Benchmark’s invitation Moores said: “The world is in the midst of a global battery arms race. The UK is in a perilous position. It has limited future battery capacity, nowhere near enough to sustain the historic levels of automotive activity that the UK has a rich history in.
“It has no production of critical minerals needed for this industry, or chemicals needed to go into the batteries, and an entire supply chain approach is needed — a lithium ion economy is needed to be built in the UK to secure future industries, especially EV manufacturing.
“From gigafactories to the mines that fuel them, the UK needs an all encompassing plan for the next 50 years. Government, finance and industry need joined-up thinking to create a lithium ion economy in the UK.
“We are proud at Benchmark to be able to contribute to the leadership of this discussion at the House of Commons next week.”
