Benchmark to publish DDP China medium sulphur pet coke spot prices

Benchmark Mineral Intelligence will now publish market price assessments for medium sulphur pet coke (0.5%<S≤3.0%), EXW China spot price, on a monthly basis.

The move comes in response to market developments over the past 12 months that have seen synthetic graphite producers supplying battery anode customers with previously unviable material produced from pet coke with a higher sulphur content (0.5%<S≤3.0%).

As Benchmark has previously reported, this shift has taken place despite the additional costs involved in desulphurising such material before graphitisation. This is because higher sulphur pet coke has maintained a discount to low sulphur material during the period, even after accounting for the additional processing.

The new grade joins six existing low sulphur anode coke grades (S<0.5%), which Benchmark assesses first hand and publishes every month. This means Benchmark Synthetic Graphite Price Assessment subscribers will now have access to the following anode coke prices on a monthly basis:

· Calcined Pet Needle Coke, DDP China, S≤0.5%

· Pre-calcined Pet Needle Coke, DDP China, S≤0.5%

· Calcined Pitch Needle Coke, DDP China, S≤0.5%

· Pre-calcined Pitch Needle Coke, DDP China, S≤0.5%

· Calcined Pet Coke, DDP China, S≤0.5%

· Pre-calcined Pet Coke, DDP China, S≤0.5%

· Pre-calcined Pet Coke, DDP China, 0.5%<S≤3.0% – NEW

These seven prices will be published for access by subscribers to Benchmark’s website on the last working day of the month (or the closest workday following) by 4pm (London). Market analysis will be sent out to subscribers soon after.
